Chief Financial Officer for Academic Affairs

Job Overview
The individual in this role will oversee the management of the annual budget and strategic financial planning for the Office of Academic Affairs (AA) and its associated units. This includes collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Academic Operations to ensure effective budget allocation and monitoring. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating financial activities, ensuring compliance with policies, and optimizing resource utilization.Key Responsibilities
- Administer all facets of budgeting for AA, collaborating closely with the central Office of Budget and Planning.
- Develop and monitor budgets to support various Academic Affairs initiatives.
- Conduct regular evaluations of financial performance and meet with leadership to identify savings opportunities.
- Facilitate communication regarding financial matters across different departments.
- Identify funding sources for commitments and coordinate with academic deans.
- Manage the input of the annual budget into the university's financial planning system.
- Provide updates on AA's financial status to the Associate VP, highlighting opportunities and concerns.
- Supervise finance staff and oversee all financial transactions, including payroll and purchasing.
- Ensure compliance with university policies related to expenditures.
- Serve as the authorized signer for various program funds.
- Maintain positive relationships with university offices to enhance processes.
- Review spending regularly and make recommendations for financial optimization.
- Collaborate with HR to manage human resources processes within AA.
- Ensure effective utilization of resources across units.
- Oversee HR functions, including approval of pay requests and performance reviews.
- Participate in confidential employment-related matters.
- Monitor ongoing capital projects and ensure proper budget management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance or management; master's degree preferred.
- Over seven years of experience in financial management or budgeting roles.
- Experience in higher education is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly with executive teams.
- Proven expertise in budget development and resource allocation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
