Position Overview
This is a full-time temporary role within the Financial Services department. The position is classified as Accountant II and is subject to reappointment based on departmental needs and performance evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Post-Award Grants Manager and will be responsible for:
- Ensuring accurate recording and documentation of financial transactions, contributing to the audit process.
- Preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports and statements.
- Conducting financial projections and examining documents for compliance with established policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Performing extensive data compilation and analysis on large volumes of financial information.
- Utilizing integrated financial systems for record management.
- Providing consultative services to supervisors regarding accounting issues.
- Identifying potential problems and recommending corrective actions.
- Assisting in the design and testing of financial systems upgrades.
- Training and guiding other staff members as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or a similar setting.
- Familiarity with governmental and non-profit accounting practices.
- Knowledge of budget development and fiscal record-keeping.
- Experience with grant compliance and reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and office procedures.
- Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet and financial software.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports.
- Strong communication skills for conveying technical information.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $4,675 - $5,143 per month, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
