The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room team, working under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse to ensure a safe and efficient surgical experience for patients.
Responsibilities- Prepares for surgical procedures by reviewing physician preferences and setting up equipment and supplies.
- Assists with patient positioning, draping, and preparation for surgery.
- Maintains a sterile field and monitors the sterility of all supplies used during the procedure.
- Assists with exposure and retraction of tissues, and provides adequate exposure for the surgeon.
- Operates equipment safely and effectively, including tables, lights, suction, and ESU.
- Passes instruments to the surgeon and recognizes and interprets the immediate situation to anticipate surgeon needs.
- Prepares and manages medications and solutions at the operative field.
- Assists with closing of body planes and skin, and applies staples as directed by the surgeon.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or military corpsman training and experience in a full-service operating room.
- Previous experience preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a safe and efficient workflow.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
The Surgical Technologist works in a fast-paced operating room environment, often standing for long periods and lifting heavy equipment. The ability to work in a team environment and maintain a safe and efficient workflow is essential.
