Sentara Healthcare is seeking a Lead Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our dedicated team in Transfusion Services. This full-time position involves working night shifts, contributing to the vital operations of our laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Lead Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for:
  • Conducting laboratory tests and interpreting results based on scientific principles and methodologies.
  • Providing recommendations for additional testing as necessary.
  • Overseeing daily technical operations, including staff training and education.
  • Implementing new instrumentation and ensuring readiness for accreditation.
  • Collaborating with management to develop project plans and timelines.
  • Supervising and assessing the competency of laboratory personnel and students in a 24/7 environment.
  • Ensuring accurate ordering and submission of proficiency surveys.
  • Collecting performance improvement data, analyzing results, and documenting progress.
  • Maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures within the department.
  • Demonstrating fiscal responsibility in all operations.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field
- Certification from ASCP or AMT
- Experience in Transfusion Services
- Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience
