Position Overview:
The City of Asheville is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Companion Animal Enforcement Officer. This role is vital in ensuring the well-being of animals and the community by enforcing local regulations and providing essential services related to animal care and control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to a variety of service requests involving domestic animals, including reports of strays, injured animals, and concerns regarding animal welfare.
- Conduct thorough investigations and gather pertinent information regarding animal-related incidents.
- Issue both verbal and written warnings, as well as civil citations for breaches of animal control regulations.
- Coordinate with law enforcement to obtain warrants for criminal charges when necessary.
- Safely impound animals found in violation of ordinances and ensure their transport to designated facilities.
- Provide assistance in transporting sick or injured animals to appropriate shelters or rehabilitation centers.
- Support the Animal Services Director in managing appeals related to contested violations and assist in the development of cases for prosecution.
- Maintain accurate records of investigations, citations, and daily activities to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Educate the public on responsible pet ownership, animal welfare issues, and the importance of adhering to local regulations.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Hourly wage of $23.59.
- Generous paid time off including holidays, sick leave, and vacation days.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience working with animals is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- Animal Control Officer Certification is preferred.
Work Schedule:
This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
