Job Summary

The Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter is a key role within our organization, responsible for overseeing and managing property and casualty business workflows. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and adherence to underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and strategically manage workflows for new property and casualty business and renewals, ensuring advanced professionalism and technical expertise.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions and price risks to develop an underwriting profit for the carrier, referring or declining risks that present excessive risk.
  • Drive risk assessment comprehensively, evaluating factors such as coverage value, location, usage, safety features, and other considerations to make informed decisions on risk acceptance.
  • Determine appropriate coverage limits, insurance premiums, and policy terms based on risk assessment, ensuring active portfolio management of complex property and casualty accounts.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers, recognizing and creating cross-sell opportunities for other products while ensuring compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to create new business opportunities, maximize retention of assigned portfolios, and contribute significantly to achieving business targets.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting with a Bachelor's degree or 6 years and a Master's degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Risk Management, Actuarial, and Business Administration preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
  • State P&C and/or surplus line licenses required; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) preferred.
