The State of Vermont is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Motor Vehicle Inspector to join our team. As a Motor Vehicle Inspector, you will be responsible for protecting Vermont consumers through enforcement and education at our licensed inspection stations and dealerships. This home-based sworn law enforcement position requires a strong investigative background and a background in automotive diagnostics and repair is preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce and educate at licensed inspection stations and dealerships
- Protect Vermont consumers through enforcement and education
- Investigate and monitor participants in the Total Abstinence (TA) Program
- Screen new applicants for the TA Program
- Work with the Investigations Unit to ensure compliance with program requirements
To be eligible for this position, you must have a high school diploma and three (3) years of law enforcement experience. You must also be a full-time certified Vermont law enforcement officer at the time of hire and have a current valid driver's license.
Preferred QualificationsA background in automotive diagnostics and repair is preferred.
Special RequirementsYou must be able to carry and place portable scales weighing 35 lbs. or more under trucks and load and unload semi-portable scales weighing up to 1,300 pounds from trailers. You must also be able to work in a variety of climatic conditions and be exposed to danger during pursuit and apprehension of violators, handling hazardous materials, and working around large trucks and pieces of equipment.
