Role Summary:
The Obstetric Technician is responsible for maintaining professional accountability and providing technical support in the care of obstetric patients.

Under the guidance of nursing and medical staff, this role encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to patient care, clerical support, and surgical assistance.

Collaboration is key; you will work effectively as part of a team while understanding the significance of unit objectives.

Your duties will include performing essential clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks that contribute to patient care and the overall success of the unit.

Operational support tasks may also be required, such as managing patient records, bed control, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring supply availability, phlebotomy, specimen transport, patient transport, blood glucose monitoring, and other assigned responsibilities.

In this role, you will provide supportive care and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) to newborns, postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as needed.

During obstetrical emergencies, maintaining composure and efficiency is crucial as part of the team. On-call duties may be necessary.


Qualifications:

Education:
A High School Diploma or GED is required. This position does not require certification as a technologist.

Completion of an accredited surgical tech program is preferred, though active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is not mandatory.

Proof of education may be requested.



Licensure:
No specific licensure is required.

Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Experience:
Prior experience in Surgical Technology is necessary at the time of hire or completion of a unit-based competency within a designated timeframe as determined by the department leader.

Additional Requirements:
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. The ability to perform job-related functions safely and effectively, with or without reasonable accommodation, is required by law.
