Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Quality Technician to join our team. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of our products by inspecting machined workpieces and assemblies at various stages of production.

Responsibilities

  • Select and utilize standard measurement tools to ensure the quality of welds on various materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and others as required.
  • Offer design for inspectability input on weldment designs to ensure efficient and effective quality control processes.
  • Perform pressure vessel and structural inspections of weld quality, and manage contractor weld inspections in accordance with AWS and ASME standards, including visual testing, penetrant testing, and radiography.
  • Perform visual inspection of non-destructive testing performed by others and review the performance of inspections completed by subconsultants or others when needed.
  • Create new weld procedure specifications as required to promote high-quality builds and identify engineering and design GD&T issues and errors that create ambiguity in the manufacturing and inspection process.
  • Work with manufacturing and quality teams to identify root causes and apply process improvements, communicate quality issues or concerns to engineering, manufacturing, and inspection teams, and write reports documenting inspections, non-conformances, contractor work activities, and operating experience.
  • Help others around them to exceed the expectations of their job and perform witnessing of weld qualifications as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with weld testing methods such as visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT), radiographic testing (RT), and ultrasonic testing (UT).
  • Strong background with quality standards for inspection and proficiency in the use of weld inspection tools, including weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
  • Ability to understand and interpret all drawing criteria, GD&T requirements, and tolerances as applied to the engineering drawing and drawing notes.
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues, work with highly collaborative teams, solve problems quickly and efficiently, proactively collect, manage, and transfer knowledge, prioritize and ensure safety of oneself and others, and track quality data on welds and organize in various software systems.

Environmental Conditions

  • Noisy environments, odors or fumes from chemicals or chemical reactions, accessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, high-concentration, demanding, and fast-paced.
  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs, manipulating, cleaning, and disposal of hazardous materials, reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions, and wearing proper PPE, including face mask, face shields, gloves, and safety shoes.

Additional Requirements

  • Occasionally requires overtime, working weekends, schedule flexibility, non-standard work-week hours, working 2nd shift, and extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines.
