Job Summary

The Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for managing all aspects of the nursing process and delivering patient-centered care. This role requires expertise in coordinating resources, technology, and multidisciplinary clinical experts to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Utilize the Patient Focused Model to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, considering age, developmental, socioeconomic, psychological, physical, spiritual, and cultural factors.
  2. Stay current with nursing literature and resources, demonstrating ongoing learning in areas such as contemporary medical, pharmacologic, and pathophysiology.
  3. Maintain competency in nursing practice and clinical skills, making an annual plan for professional development and completing mandatory educational requirements.
  4. Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care for assigned patients, ensuring consistency with the medical plan and responsiveness to changing patient needs.
  5. Delegate nursing activities to unlicensed personnel based on patient stability, training, and capability.
  6. Collect and analyze patient information, collaborating with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members to expedite and coordinate service delivery.
  7. Collaborate with physicians regarding patient clinical status, medical and nursing treatment plans, and progression toward outcomes.
  8. Assess patient learning needs, develop a teaching plan, and educate patients and family members on disease processes, testing, medications, signs/symptoms, and other relevant information.
  9. Ensure timely initiation, completion, communication, and documentation of nursing care, testing, treatment, teaching, and discharge planning activities.
  10. Consult the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Health Care Coordinator for complex patient care management and discharge planning.
  11. Identify barriers to implementing the plan of care or achieving expected outcomes, consulting appropriate resources to report and/or resolve problems.
  12. Seek out innovative opportunities to improve patient care and exhibit fiscal accountability through cost-effective use of time, materials, and other resources.
  13. Implement advanced clinical skills to achieve identified patient outcomes and assist staff nurses in coordinating all resources to facilitate hospital admission and successful discharge.
  14. Act as a resource/consultant for registered nurses and other team members, developing and revising instructional materials for patient family teaching and/or staff development.
Leadership Management
  1. Assume responsibility for direction, supervision, and development of assigned personnel.
  2. Participate in hiring processes and evaluating assigned personnel, or as requested.
  3. Maintain a smooth functioning department through effective priority setting, decision making, problem solving, and organization of resources.
  4. Identify problems with systems or processes, recommending or participating in designing strategies to improve quality and utilization of Medical Center resources.
  5. Conduct and participate in multidisciplinary team conferences and educational offerings.
  6. Demonstrate and apply assertiveness skills and techniques.
  7. Participate in orientation of new employees and serve as a preceptor and mentor for team members.
  8. Participate in and assist in identifying performance improvement activities.
  9. Assure practice meets external regulatory agencies' requirements and assists in identifying areas for improvement and developing a plan for compliance.
  10. Chair and/or participate on unit committees to promote achievement of Division and Unit Objectives.
