Job Title: Estimator

At Meruelo Group, we are seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in preparing complete estimates for bidding, budgeting, scope changes, and other projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, and existing site conditions to determine the scope of work.
  • Prepare bid documentations required for submittal, including special insurance, bonds, DBE, and other necessary documents.
  • Coordinate scope of work with Project Managers and Subcontractors.
  • Interface with owners, architects, engineers, and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work, including all materials, labor, equipment, and sub-contractors.
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimates figures.
  • Prepare budgets and assist in creating preliminary project schedules following awarded contracts.
  • Coordinate with Purchase Order Managers to create purchase orders for each project.
  • Follow all requirements of the company safety program and promote safety among peers, subordinates, and supervisors.
Requirements:
  • 4-year engineering or construction management degree preferred or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience required.
  • Possess or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license.
  • Proven experience in effectively estimating similar construction projects.
  • Strong background in writing, presentation, and computer skills required.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and accounts required.
Working Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods. The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required. Working conditions consist of temperature-controlled buildings or offices, outside elements such as rain, cold, and heat when working in open environments, driving from various locations or attending meetings, etc. Noise levels are moderate to loud depending on work location.
