About the Surgical Progressive Care Unit:
The Surgical Trauma Stepdown Unit is a fast-paced, 28-bed facility dedicated to the care of adult patients with diverse medical conditions, surgical interventions, and trauma cases. Our unit specializes in managing complex cases, including chest tube care and bedside procedures.
We are adept at handling a variety of post-operative patients, particularly those undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries. Our team is trained to manage respiratory challenges, including the use of Bipap/CPAP and high-flow oxygen therapy.
Role Overview:
As a member of the nursing team, you will provide direct patient care and support under the supervision of a registered nurse. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing patients for meals and assisting with feeding
- Maintaining cleanliness in patient areas and managing supplies
- Assisting with patient mobility and personal care
- Observing and documenting patient conditions and care provided
- Administering medications as directed by a registered nurse
You will also engage in recreational activities for patients and respond to emergencies as needed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and universal precautions.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a valid LPN license or a temporary practice permit in the state of Pennsylvania. Successful completion of the Altoona Hospital pharmacology challenge exam is required, along with current CPR certification.
New graduates and those with international qualifications must complete additional training as specified by UPMC.
