Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage laboratory workflow, prioritizing tasks and ensuring timely completion of testing.
  • Supervise and train laboratory staff, including medical technologists, technicians, and laboratory assistants.
  • Coordinate quality control procedures, track and resolve issues, and maintain accurate records.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimizing waste.
  • Monitor departmental budget expenditures, ensuring fiscal responsibility and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new testing procedures, equipment, and products.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field, with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Accreditation as a technologist from the Board of Registry (ASCP) in the related specialty may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical and theoretical knowledge in the appropriate laboratory specialty.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent experience in molecular diagnostics and virology.
Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to disagreeable odors, infectious materials, and other hazardous substances. Work requires visual strain due to protracted, close examination of specimens and use of a microscope. Prolonged standing and walking may be required, as well as the ability to lift heavy objects.
