We are seeking a highly skilled Registration/Scheduler to join our team at WMU Homer Stryker, M.D. School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient service, ensuring accurate and efficient registration and scheduling processes, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Verify patient insurance coverage and correct any errors in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Create and print Good Faith Estimates for self-pay and non-participating insurances
- Back up the Central Scheduling Team to print Medical Clearance Instructions (MCIRs) for next-day patients
- Pre-register patients for upcoming appointments by collecting all necessary information
- Manage assigned work queues and in-basket requests
- Answer and direct department phone calls
- Schedule and reschedule clinic appointments
- Enter patient demographic and insurance information into the EMR system
- Verify eligibility of managed care patients and collect copays
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of paperwork for patients
- Sort and distribute department mail
- Provide information to patients regarding billing processes and procedures
- Enter patient concerns, refill requests, and route to appropriate clinic in-basket
- Manage patient portal requests
- Monitor office supplies and reorder as needed
- Be available to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time-sensitive projects
- Stay up-to-date on new technology and policy/procedure revisions
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience in customer service preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience in insurance verification preferred
- Call center experience preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience scheduling appointments for multiple providers preferred
- Ability to ask for past due balances and copays at time of service
- Knowledge and proficiency in EMR (Epic), Availity, Medifax, Access, CHAMPS, and internet required
- Basic word processing and file management using Microsoft Office
- Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills
- Ability to type with accuracy and speed to meet demand
- Team-oriented
- Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Ability to operate automated standard office equipment
- Participates in professional development classes as suggested by supervisor
- Strives to learn more and is receptive to new challenges and opportunities
- Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately
- Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow
- Able to perform duties independently with minimal need for direct supervision
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
