Job Summary:

As a key member of the Glenn O. Hawbaker team, the Shop Operations Manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating all day-to-day equipment maintenance activities in both shop and field environments. This role requires strong analytical abilities and organizational skills to ensure that company equipment is maintained, repaired, and utilized as cost-effectively as possible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize, Plan, and Schedule Maintenance Tasks: The Shop Operations Manager will prioritize, plan, and schedule all maintenance tasks for field or shop operations, making decisions with the aid of other leaders and utilizing all available information.
  • Report Shift Activities and Status of Projects: The Shop Operations Manager will report shift activities and the status of projects to the Shop Superintendent on a daily basis.
  • Ensure Compliance with Company Policies and Procedures: The Shop Operations Manager will ensure that all company policies, safety regulations, and good housekeeping guidelines are observed.
  • Provide Leadership and Guidance: The Shop Operations Manager will provide leadership, guidance, and encouragement in the shop environment to assist in the continual professional growth of each team member.
  • Conduct Weekly Safety Meetings: The Shop Operations Manager will conduct weekly safety meetings to ensure the safety of all work being performed.
  • Manage Shop Operations: The Shop Operations Manager will ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the shop, exercising proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
Requirements:
  • Strong Analytical Abilities and Organizational Skills: The Shop Operations Manager must have strong analytical abilities and organizational skills to ensure the effective management of shop operations.
  • Leadership Experience: The Shop Operations Manager must have previous leadership experience in a maintenance environment or a minimum of five years of experience in heavy equipment/diesel repair and maintenance.
  • Education: A high school graduate or equivalent is required, with a preference for additional training such as two years of college and/or graduation from a technical school.
Physical Requirements:
  • Constantly: The Shop Operations Manager will be required to have face-to-face discussions with individuals and teams on the job, hear and speak to use a telephone and company radio, and see and read PC screens, read normal type size print.
  • Frequently: The Shop Operations Manager will be required to walk and work on uneven terrain, wear required personal protective equipment, manage a variety of tasks simultaneously, bend, stoop, stretch, prolonged standing and squat to reach repair areas, use hands and fingers for typing, climb up and down ladders and stairs to access parts, lift equipment and stock parts overhead, and lift and/or transport items weighing less than 50 pounds from one location to another throughout the shift.
