Job Overview

SALARY: $37,600 annually

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is essential for maintaining the road right of way and ensuring effective drainage systems for Rockwall County. Responsibilities include asphalt application, street sign management, tree trimming, mowing, drainage upkeep, erosion control, and transporting road materials among other tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage daily work orders; repair and install street signs; set up sign bases and poles as necessary; deploy warning signs for roadwork.
  • Address potholes; shovel and distribute various materials.
  • Utilize chainsaws for tree limb cutting or trimming.
  • Transport materials to job sites and county facilities.
  • Conduct routine road maintenance tasks.
  • Engage in traffic control; maintain clear communication with team members and the public; implement lane closures as needed.
  • Perform maintenance tasks at County facilities including cleaning, repairing, and organizing signage; construct barricades, and engage in welding and fabrication.
  • Operate heavy machinery such as backhoes and loaders for material loading and perform tasks like culvert replacement and ditch cleaning.
  • Conduct tire replacements and minor repairs on all equipment; ensure cleanliness of tools and workspaces.
  • Manage road sanding during adverse weather; operate street sweepers for cleanliness.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY AND BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not entail supervisory or budget responsibilities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in operating heavy machinery and possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Familiarity with various equipment including chainsaws, dump trucks, sweepers, backhoes, and hand tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make informed decisions following established policies.
  • Capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks efficiently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work. The role includes exposure to varying temperatures and seasonal weather conditions, with occasional noise and physical hazards. Health and safety risks are minimal, and personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and ear protection is recommended. Frequent physical activities include lifting, carrying, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and bending.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • A background investigation must be successfully completed.
