Auto Claims Specialist II

Overview

Under the supervision of the Claims Manager, this role operates with a significant degree of autonomy, managing a portfolio of commercial automobile and general liability claims, both first and third party, that present low to moderate loss potential. The specialist is responsible for investigating, assessing, and resolving claims within their designated authority. This position routinely coordinates with Independent Adjusters/Appraisers and legal representatives.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Auto Claims Specialist II encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Assessing applicable coverage for each claim.
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate reserves based on case facts and company guidelines.
  • Conducting thorough investigations, assigning fieldwork as necessary, and determining liability.
  • Evaluating and authorizing claim payments within designated limits.
  • Preparing and delivering comprehensive verbal and written reports on claim status in line with company protocols.
  • Recommending payments, evaluating reserves, and escalating cases exceeding designated authority to management.
  • Performing additional tasks as directed by the Claims Manager or senior leadership.
  • Identifying injury exposures (e.g., Med Pay, PIP, UM/UIM) for appropriate escalation.
  • Managing Auto Physical Damage claims with a resolution target of 30-60 days.
  • Recognizing subrogation recovery opportunities and ensuring preservation of file materials for potential recovery.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Strong technical skills in claims management with a focus on exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a paperless environment.
  • Proficiency in multitasking and prioritizing workload efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tort law, vehicle codes, civil procedures, and insurance policies.
  • Capacity to analyze and implement innovative solutions to claims-related challenges.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to manage primarily smaller auto physical damage claims, including first and third party claims, as well as PIP and Medical Payments claims.
  • Awareness of confidentiality guidelines and adherence to them.
  • Interaction with legal and medical professionals, third-party claimants, policyholders, and senior staff is essential.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, particularly Windows, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to apply Fair Claims Practices guidelines accurately.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of two to five years of experience in handling commercial auto claims, including first and third party claims.
  • Ability to interpret physical damage estimates and understand auto repair processes; estimate writing experience is preferred.
Educational Background
  • A four-year college degree or equivalent professional experience.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is competitive and reflects a nationwide market range, taking into account various factors such as location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience. In addition to the base salary, employees may also qualify for additional incentive compensation based on individual and company performance.
