We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Newborn Admission Team Nurse to join our team at Northside Hospital Inc. As a key member of our Admission Team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to newborn babies and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the care of newborn babies from birth until transfer to the appropriate nursery
- Provide primary care to newborn babies, including assessing their physical and emotional needs
- Apply the nursing process to assess low to moderate risk newborns, including APGAR scoring to determine their status and need for resuscitation
- Provide resuscitation as needed according to Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) guidelines
- Perform biophysical assessments and review maternal history for risk factors that could impact newborn care
- Obtain initial measurements, lab, and point-of-care testing (i.e., birth weight, head circumference, length, vital signs)
- Provide treatment according to medical provider orders (i.e., Erythromycin Ointment, Vitamin K Injection, and Glucose Gel)
- Initiate appropriate consults as indicated
- Provide education to mothers and/or care partners on medication side effects and plan of care
- Provide education on newborn safety and security
- Assist with skin-to-skin contact, initial latch, and breast and/or formula feeding
- Complete the initial newborn bath as indicated
- Document care and education in the electronic health record
- Demonstrate ongoing and annual competency
- Assist with orientation of new staff
- Participate in staff meetings and other hospital committees as needed
- Demonstrate service excellence behaviors consistently to all customers
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training
- Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
- Certified in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
- Certified as a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC)
- Obtains STABLE certification within two (2) years of assuming role, if not certified
