Position Overview

TRC is in search of a dedicated Lead Civil Engineering Specialist to join our expanding team in upstate New York. This role may be based out of various locations within the state.

The ideal candidate will be a driven professional eager to advance their career in site civil design and permitting. This position will act as a primary client liaison, collaborating with stakeholders to assess project requirements and leading teams to deliver high-quality services.

The Lead Civil Engineering Specialist will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated design solutions that align with client expectations, while also networking with clients to identify and clarify project objectives, preparing and negotiating proposals, and ensuring project delivery adheres to established scope, timeline, and budget. We are particularly interested in candidates with substantial experience in developing or supporting solar and/or storage initiatives within New York State and across the U.S.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement stormwater management systems for renewable energy projects.
  • Develop construction and industrial stormwater SWPPPs.
  • Conduct earthwork assessments and create grading plans.
  • Provide civil-site design for various projects, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist clients in overcoming development challenges by collaborating with project teams to conduct thorough analyses.
  • Guide and mentor junior staff members.
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control measures.
  • Occasional travel (up to 15-20%) throughout the U.S.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of experience in civil-site design, including stormwater management systems, site grading, and road alignment.
  • Experience with energy-related projects, particularly in renewable energy (wind, solar, etc.) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret data related to site usage and topography for developing stormwater management plans and best practices.
  • Experience in creating Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
  • Familiarity with erosion and sedimentation control plan development is advantageous.
  • New York Professional Engineer license is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Experience with stormwater modeling/hydrology software such as HydroCAD.
  • Expertise in the development and execution of plans, designs, and specifications.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal permitting processes for renewable and storage projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check and OSHA physical.
