Position Description

The Education Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is seeking applications for a continuous pool of Lead Educator Supervisors in English and/or Social Sciences. Responsibilities include overseeing student teachers in middle and high school environments, with additional duties that may involve:

  • Conducting student teaching seminars at various levels.
  • Participating in departmental committees.

Supervisors are tasked with aiding credential candidates in completing a thorough evaluation of their instructional practices in alignment with California Teaching Performance Expectations.

The department prepares approximately 60 credential students annually for teaching roles in K-12 public schools in California. The program, which also offers a Master of Arts in Education, operates year-round. UCSC, recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution, serves a diverse student population, including many from immigrant backgrounds. Our commitment lies in employing inquiry-based pedagogies to enhance the education of linguistically and culturally diverse students while promoting equity and social justice.

Lead Educator Supervisors may hold full-time (100%) positions during the academic year, with appointments influenced by student enrollment. Those appointed at less than 100% may also consider applying for additional lecturer roles within the Education Department.

We encourage applications from candidates who are authorized bilingual teachers (BCLAD or equivalent). Internal candidates will receive priority consideration.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application):

  • B.A./B.S. degree (or equivalent foreign degree).
  • Valid California Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in English or Social Sciences.
  • Experience teaching in K-12 educational settings.
