Position Overview

Summary

First Church Academy for Young Children is a licensed and NAEYC accredited institution dedicated to providing quality care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. Our operational hours are from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, offering both full-time and part-time care options.

The role of the Substitute Educator offers flexible hours, allowing us to accommodate your personal schedule while ensuring the continuity of care for our students.


Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Substitute Educator will collaborate with classroom staff to create a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment that promotes children's self-esteem, independence, and individuality.

The Substitute Educator is expected to adhere to the protocols outlined in the First Church Academy for Young Children Staff Manual and uphold the ethical standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

This position is hourly and contingent upon the needs of the school.


Key Responsibilities


1. Communicate with the classroom teacher/staff to review the substitute folder, understanding the day's schedule, number of children present, and specific duties not included in the general substitute folder.

2. Provide a safe, loving, and nurturing atmosphere for the children.


3. Address the individual needs of children across all developmental areas—physical, emotional, social, and intellectual—tailoring support to their developmental stage.

4. Implement developmentally appropriate guidance as directed by the Lead Teacher, with a focus on fostering positive behavior.


5. Maintain a classroom environment that is clean, safe, inviting, and stimulating for all children.


Qualifications

1. A genuine enjoyment of working with young children.

2. Previous experience with children aged 0-5 is preferred.

3. Dependable and punctual.

4. Flexibility in scheduling.

5. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
