Job Summary:The Telemetry Monitoring Tech will be responsible for operating and troubleshooting all functions of the telemetry monitoring system, providing specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the system.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate and troubleshoot all functions of the telemetry monitoring system
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients and enter all required information in the telemetry monitoring system
- Adjust alarms and review trends and alarms
- Clean and maintain telemetry monitors/holders and account for monitors upon patient discharge
- Account for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift
- Order monitoring supplies and obtain and document rhythm strips per unit/department standards
- Maintain logbook on all monitored patients
- Provide precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station
- Interpret EKG rhythms, recognize significant EKG events, and communicate information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame
- Immediately report significant or life-threatening changes to a RN
- Participate in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians, and students as related to monitoring equipment
- Assist with maintenance of unit equipment and perform daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators
- Ensure that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections and report all malfunctioning equipment
- Provide age-appropriate interaction and care as indicated, use aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties, and recognize patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis
- Respect and support patient/family rights, practice positive guest and peer relations, and participate in and support quality improvement activities
- Demonstrate acceptable productivity and practices cost containment, function as an interdependent and supportive team member, and participate in and promote the development of self and others
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience
- Passing score of 80% or higher of UTMB's arrhythmia test
