Job Summary

USA Health is seeking a highly skilled Orthopaedic Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training services for our clinics under the direction of a designated physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat medical and musculoskeletal pathology patients consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the BOC and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Credentialing Board.
  • Provide direct patient care, including clinic pre-visit planning, coordination of care, new patient triage, surgical case organization, surgical circulation, and surgical first assist as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Obtain medical history for each patient seen, including a thorough history of injury or condition, primary complaint, pain level assessment, past medical history, and quality of life and how it is affected.
  • Perform an appropriate physical examination, including range of motion testing, strength and/or manual muscle testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and other special tests as needed.
  • Order diagnostic studies or other referrals under the direction of the attending physician, such as radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, and ultrasounds.
  • Provide initial rehabilitation exercises and instruction, demonstration, and feedback on patient performance of the exercises as directed by the attending physician.
  • Fits the patient with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other various durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician and educates the patient on the appropriate use of the equipment provided.
  • Removes sutures or staples and provides dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
  • Aides the physician in preparing patients for injections that will be performed by the attending physician.
  • Schedules patient follow-up appointments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers.
  • Licensure as an Athletic Trainer with the state of Alabama.
  • Masters degree in healthcare, athletic training, education, or business is preferred.
