Food Preparation Specialist

The Central Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in the preparation of food at the Student Nutrition Center. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in food preparation areas, including packaging, laundry, dish room, staging area, coolers, and freezer.
- Safely learn and operate various types of institutional kitchen equipment.
- Efficiently perform repetitive tasks in a high production environment.
- Prepare and slice food for cooking, slice meats and cheese, cut entree and dessert items into required serving portions.
- Wipe counters, clean and sanitize equipment, sweep and mop floors, work in the laundry, remove trash, and perform other routine cleaning/sanitation tasks.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
- Must be proficient in basic math.
- Must attend the four-hour ASD Serving It Safe food safety course and pass the associated examination within 21 calendar days from date of hire into the position.
- Previous food service experience.
- Ability to prepare simple reports.
- Knowledge of sanitation practices and ability to learn food service practices and procedures.
This position requires the ability to work in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
Physical and Mental DemandsThe physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required.
