Job Description:

As an Environmental Educator with the University of Florida's 4-H program, you will play a vital role in delivering educational programs to students in grades K-12, focusing on Florida's land, air, soil, and water using the Florida 4-H Environmental Education curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement educational programs for students, including hands-on activities and workshops.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other educators to integrate environmental education into the curriculum.
  • Conduct outreach visits to schools and organizations to promote environmental education and provide training to educators.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of environmental education programs.

Onboarding and Training:

Initial onboarding training will cover UF Human Resources, 4-H Standards of Expectations and Youth Protection, and AmeriCorps expectations and allowable activities.

Members will also receive training in experiential learning, behavior modification, and environmental education practicum.

Evaluations and Reporting:
  • Quarterly program delivery performance evaluations with on-site supervisor and/or other supervisor.
  • Bi-weekly timesheet reporting.
  • Monthly data reports, including number of reached participants and environmental education evaluation data.
  • Quarterly narrative reports of education programs and delivery.
Supervisor Information:
  • AmeriCorps Supervisor: Erin Mugge, 4-H AmeriCorps Program Director.
  • On-site Supervisor: Ariel Blanton, 4-H Camp Timpoochee Camp Director.
Time of Service:

Service will take place from September 4 to July 5, with flexible scheduling options available.

Members can serve as full-time, three-quarters time, half-time, or one-quarter time members, with varying service hours depending on the start date.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in sciences, education, natural resources, youth development, recreational leadership, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Teaching pre-designed environmental education curricula to various ages and abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication with large and small groups.
  • Customer service and experience working with youth.
  • Knowledge, experience, and/or interest in teaching environmental education.
