About Pinterest:

We're one of the fastest-growing online advertising platforms, and our continued success depends on scaling our core revenue-generating systems. We need to rapidly scale our campaign management, ad delivery, and machine learning platforms by 10 times.

Our Ads Retrieval and Targeting Infra team is seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to take the tech lead role. You will lead the team in building a high-throughput, low-latency industry-scale information retrieval system that empowers Pinterest ads business.

In this pivotal role, you'll take on the challenge of defining and executing the technical strategy for scaling and modernizing our retrieval infrastructure. Your efforts will include rearchitecting and refining the infrastructure to achieve greater scalability, freshness, and performance handling billions of ads repository and millions of queries per second (QPS).

You will lead collaboration with Machine Learning, Product, and other partner teams to evaluate infrastructure requests and make funding decisions. As the tech lead of 5-10 engineers, you'll directly influence their day-to-day work through mentorship and leadership.

What we're looking for:

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience with Ads or Search Infrastructure and distributed systems
  • Rich experience in working cross-functionally to drive alignment, oversee execution, and secure deliverables
  • Hands-on experience in solving complex scaling, latency, or low-level system performance problems in high-volume online serving systems
  • Experience in mentoring, guiding, and upleveling junior engineers
  • Experience solving end-user problems and envisioning solutions to improve their productivity
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and trends, and using it to form a long-term plan for the team
  • Proficiency in at least one of the system languages (C++, Java, Python), preferably with C++

Relocation Statement:

In-Office Requirement Statement:

  • This role will require in-person collaboration 1 time per week and needs to be in a commutable distance from one of the following offices: San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Seattle.

Salary Information:

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $160,520 - $330,146 USD, with eligibility for equity. The final salary will be based on factors including location, travel, prior experience, and particular skills and expertise.
