Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Portfolio Manager - Commercial Credit to join our team at M&T Bank. As a key member of our Commercial Credit Portfolio Management Department, you will be responsible for the ongoing monitoring process for the Bank's commercial loans to ensure timely and accurate credit risk ratings and compliance with both credit policy and loan agreements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring (CCM) activities, enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risk and taking appropriate actions to manage the risk, minimize losses, and assign an accurate risk rating.
  • Review all pertinent credit and financial information, including financial statements, tax returns, due diligence reports, credit bureaus, appraisals, internal credit information, industry research, and peer data, to determine the need for more thorough investigation or additional information.
  • Analyze financial information and related materials and complete ongoing credit monitoring for the Bank's commercial transactions, assessing the risk of customers on an ongoing basis and identifying emerging risks or material changes in their financial position.
  • Liaison between Commercial Banking Relationship Managers and the Underwriting Team to facilitate credit needs of customers, whether through new requests, modifications, or annual reviews/renewals, and documenting and tracking relevant information, reports, and memos to ensure necessary credit approvals are obtained, documented, and adhered to.
  • Prepare financial models, cash flow, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, and guarantor statement analysis as appropriate, and monitor credit performance of customer portfolios and escalate or remediate as necessary.
  • Responsible for the timeliness of monitoring activities and ensuring credit policy compliance by verifying adherence to the Commercial Credit Policy and evaluating any risk associated with non-compliance.
  • Present analysis or address questions during credit discussions or presentations, and may attend client calls with RMs to gain a thorough understanding of the client/prospect and their business.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies, and promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline with 5 years' experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis, or other financial analysis, or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 9 years' higher education and work experience to include 5 years' experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis, or other financial analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent analytical ability.
What We Offer

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $85,000 - $141,840.07 Annual (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
