Position Overview

The Second Assistant Engineer plays a crucial role in the operational management of marine vessels, working under the guidance of the Chief Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a designated watch, ensuring the safety and efficiency of personnel and their assigned tasks.
  • Assist in the operation and upkeep of all machinery and systems aboard the vessel.
  • Maintain accurate engine room logs as mandated by regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct regular safety assessments of departmental tools and safety gear as instructed.
  • Document all maintenance and operational activities in the Engineer log with detailed entries.
Work Environment

Employees are expected to reside and work on the vessel throughout the operational season, with accommodations and meals provided.

Work Schedule

The role requires standing a 4-hour watch, twice daily, across all seven days of the week.

Qualifications and Certifications

Applicants must hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and a Merchant Mariners Credential issued by the U.S. Coast Guard, with appropriate endorsements, including at least Third Assistant Engineer of steam vessels of unlimited horsepower. A current U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certificate is also required, along with proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
