KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position contributes to the success of the organization by operating packaging machinery in accordance with established specifications. All tasks must be performed in compliance with safety protocols. The role embodies and promotes the guiding principles of the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Mentors and coaches machine operators to enhance their skills and understanding of current and emerging technologies.
  • Acts as a training mentor, assessing the training needs of machine operators and providing constructive feedback to the supervisor.
  • Utilizes system tracking tools to identify opportunities for process enhancement, compiling data and recognizing trends to assist maintenance in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Reviews daily staffing schedules and offers feedback to the supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with product specifications and quality standards regarding package appearance, labeling, seals, case, and pallet configurations.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Operates packaging machinery with all safety guards and switches in place, adhering to all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Oversees the execution of the master sanitation schedule by the team.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for all production packaging equipment.
  • Supports cost reduction initiatives by identifying and addressing potential roadblocks and process improvements to minimize downtime, scrap, and products not meeting quality specifications.
  • Engages vendor resources for troubleshooting and educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety as a core value, reinforcing and coaching others to uphold safety standards.
  • Understands and follows established safety guidelines, consistently complying with all safety procedures (e.g., PPE, Lock Out Tag Out).
  • Supports food safety, legality, and quality programs.
  • Maintains product quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications, and quality procedures, monitoring and documenting quality measures using analytical tools.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary to support business objectives and the company's mission and values.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma/GED or one to two years of experience in a related field or a combination of both education and experience.
  • Experience operating manual and automated packaging equipment (3 years).
  • Experience performing quality tests using analytical tools (2 years).
  • Experience in a regulated food manufacturing environment (2 years).
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting machine failures and making minor adjustments (2 years).

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend written policies, guidelines, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Ability to collaborate within a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to adhere to safety, quality, and sanitation standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to repair significant mechanical issues on machines and systems.
  • Experience conducting quality tests and analyzing data.
  • Ability to train others and assess effectiveness.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Mechanical knowledge of automated machines and tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Internet environments.
  • Ability to compile and interpret data and identify trends.
  • Ability to describe and analyze equipment failures, quality concerns, and scrap reduction.
  • Ability to work variable shifts to meet business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards, including Preventive Controls for Human Food (FDA Code of Federal Regulations) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with GFSI certification schemes (i.e., BRC and/or SQF).
