Froedtert Health is seeking a dedicated Obstetric Surgical Technician to join our team. This position is essential in supporting our obstetric department and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Job Overview:

The Obstetric Surgical Technician will assist in various surgical procedures, including cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries. Under the guidance of a registered nurse, the technician will perform essential tasks to maintain a safe and organized environment in labor and delivery settings.

Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting in surgical procedures and providing support to physicians and nursing staff.
• Organizing and stocking labor and recovery rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and functional.
• Conducting quality control checks on medical equipment and maintaining a sterile environment.

The technician will also be involved in:
• Scrubbing for surgical interventions such as cesarean deliveries and emergency procedures.
• Attending to high-risk cases and providing care for pregnant patients in trauma situations.


Preferred Experience:
Prior experience as a Surgical Technician or Obstetric Technician is highly valued.

Educational Requirements:

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with one of the following:
• Graduation from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program (Associate, Diploma, or Certificate).
• Graduation from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist Program (Associate, Diploma, or Certificate).
• Certification as a Nursing Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Individuals in this role prior to specific guidelines may substitute educational requirements with relevant clinical experience.


Special Skills:
Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential. The ability to learn about surgical instruments and effective communication with healthcare professionals is required.

Licensure:

Candidates must possess one of the following:
• State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification.
• Completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant or Surgical Technologist Program.

Additionally, certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or an equivalent is required within a specified timeframe after hire.
