Position Overview:
Join a dedicated team committed to animal welfare and conservation as a Wildlife Care Specialist. This role involves comprehensive care for a variety of species, ensuring their health and well-being in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Wildlife Care Specialist, your daily tasks will include:

  • Providing daily husbandry and nutrition for assigned animals, including the preparation and distribution of approved diets.
  • Conducting close monitoring of animal behaviors, focusing on health indicators such as appetite and mobility.
  • Implementing animal handling and restraint techniques in accordance with established protocols.
  • Engaging with visitors through educational presentations and interactive experiences at exhibits.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records regarding animal care and health.
  • Assisting veterinary staff during medical procedures and emergencies.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of both exhibit and off-exhibit areas.
  • Proposing and executing species-specific enrichment activities to promote natural behaviors.
  • Collaborating with team members to complete projects and maintain high standards of animal care.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A high school diploma or GED; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of paid experience in animal care at an accredited institution.
  • Certifications in SCUBA and First Aid, as applicable.
  • Proficiency in using word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of zoonotic diseases and safety protocols.
  • The ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including the potential for long hours and shifts during weekends and holidays. The Wildlife Care Specialist will be expected to conduct all activities in alignment with industry standards and relevant regulations.
