Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach English to non-native speakers in a student-centered classroom environment
  • Emphasize reading, vocabulary development, listening, speaking, writing, and grammar skills
  • Create and submit weekly lesson plans to the building lead
  • Learn and implement the required curriculum that emphasizes life skills, workplace skills, digital literacy, and civics/citizenship
  • Access and utilize online resources to teach in a classroom setting
  • Maintain student data, attendance records, and other online resources
  • Complete student reports at the end of each semester
  • Participate in new student intake on-boarding, staff development activities, and weekly staff meetings
  • Work with the building lead to schedule formal observations and debriefs
  • Fulfill periodically for other teachers
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or related area
  • Experience working with English language learners in a classroom setting
  • Ability to create and maintain a student-centered classroom
  • Demonstrate classroom management skills
  • Work with multi-level learners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Classroom, online resources, and classroom technology
  • Flexibility in teaching practices and scheduling
  • Minimum of one year teaching in a classroom setting
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population
  • Experience teaching adult learners
Preferred Qualifications:
  • TESOL certificate from an accredited university or Master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language
  • Ability to work with a diverse adult student population
  • Ability to teach in a student-centered classroom for 3-hour sessions where cooperative learning is emphasized
  • Experience teaching adult English Language Learners
  • Experience working with Google Classroom
