Position Overview

The Transportation Research Center Inc. is on the lookout for a Research Specialist to contribute to investigations concerning cybersecurity threats associated with widely utilized wireless and physical interfaces in automotive systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on various cybersecurity vulnerabilities affecting motor vehicles.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to execute intricate testing and evaluations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to guide project planning and strategic direction.
  • Utilize multiple programming languages effectively in research activities.
  • Preferred experience includes analyzing binaries with tools such as Ghidra or IDA Pro, proficiency in Linux command line operations, and skills in designing and analyzing electronic circuits.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields such as Computer Information Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related area is preferred. Previous experience in cybersecurity research is also advantageous.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and implement analytical methodologies for component and full-scale vehicle testing.
  • Investigate a diverse range of automotive safety concerns.
  • Perform design evaluations of vehicle safety systems.
  • Assess technical proposals and provide feedback.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Create detailed cost assessments for various tasks.
  • Establish and manage project timelines and budgets.
  • Draft research papers and technical documentation.
  • Deliver customer support efficiently and accurately.
  • Report findings and test results in various technical formats.
  • Collaborate within a team to achieve project objectives.
  • Critically assess and rectify deficiencies in technical proposals and reports.
  • Make informed technical decisions with moderate oversight.
  • Participate in professional society and technical committee meetings.
  • Support the organization’s Quality and Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives.
Working Conditions

The position is based in a standard office environment that is climate-controlled. Candidates must be able to maintain a stationary position for extended periods and operate office equipment effectively.
