We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our Cardiology team at Mount Sinai Hospital. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, and perform patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.
Responsibilities- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, and assisting with vital signs and other patient care tasks.
- Assists physicians with various procedures, takes vital signs, and relays instructions to patients and families.
- Completes clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
- Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
- Provides set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
- Maintains logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and sterilization processes.
- Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and disposes of them appropriately according to institution policy.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, and complies with legal requirements for personal protective equipment.
- Assists in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, op reports, test results, and home care forms.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with the Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
- May perform proficient phlebotomy duties and appointment scheduling and registration for patients, as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completion of a Medical Assistant certificate program from an approved school or equivalent training and experience; preferred 2 years of Medical Assistant experience without the certificate program
- Certified as Medical Assistant preferred
