Position Overview: We are in search of a Managing Editor with a background in Managed Care and peer-review. This role entails overseeing the editorial vision, content, and tone of designated journals within the managed care and population health sectors, across both print and digital mediums. The Managing Editor will coordinate and direct editorial functions, ensuring timely and high-quality publication of projects while adhering to budgetary limits. This position serves as a key representative of the publication within the industry.

Key Editorial Responsibilities:

  • Perform copyediting on submitted manuscripts, news articles, blogs, and insights in accordance with AMA style guidelines.
  • Generate content on pertinent topics related to managed care, including news coverage, industry updates, regulatory and policy changes, and relevant population health research.
  • Oversee sponsored content initiatives in collaboration with the Assistant Editorial Director to meet established objectives.
  • Assist in content posting and tagging, as well as the creation and distribution of e-newsletters to enhance audience engagement.
  • Identify and conduct interviews with key opinion leaders (KOLs) regarding the latest industry trends and relevant subjects, while maintaining and nurturing existing KOL relationships.
  • Attend designated conferences to cover sessions and interview speakers.
  • Assume copyediting and related production/editorial duties, including the peer-review process for assigned journals as necessary.
  • Manage freelance assignments as required.

Content Strategy Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Editorial Director to create and assign monthly editorial calendars.
  • Work alongside the Assistant Editorial Director to identify content for publication issues and exclusive onsite content.
  • Analyze metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of brand strategy decisions.
  • Review story proposals and assess their suitability for acceptance based on the established content strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of three to five years of relevant publishing experience.
  • Previous experience in medical publishing, preferably with a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Familiarity with web-based manuscript tracking systems.
  • Proficient in AMA Manual of Style (required).
  • Strong proofreading and editing capabilities (required).
  • Experience in online/digital publishing.
  • Comfortable navigating content management systems (CMS).
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics.
  • Able to manage significant projects from inception to completion, including editorial conception, managing editorial rounds, and executing sponsored content initiatives.
  • Skilled in recruiting and developing advisory panels, survey panels, and key opinion leaders.
  • Proficient in InCopy, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel by air, approximately 3 to 6 trips per year.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Consistent and verifiable work history.
