Phlebotomist - Flower Hospital - Per Diem - Variable
Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at ProMedica Flower Hospital. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. This is a per diem position, with variable shifts available.
Responsibilities- Collect blood specimens from patients using proper techniques and equipment.
- Follow strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis to ensure patient safety.
- Assist in the care of patients prior to, during, and after specimen collection.
- Determine the appropriate tests and associated minimum volumes for each specimen.
- Utilize the laboratory computer information system to document and track specimen collection.
- Perform and document quality control procedures to ensure accurate results.
- Act as a resource and liaison between phlebotomy staff and the laboratory team.
- Cross-train in defined core job functions and patient care departments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute or one year of phlebotomy experience.
- Successful completion of an academic program with substantial practical clinical phlebotomy experience.
- Preferred qualifications include professional registration (PBT(ASCP)) and one year of experience in a high-volume phlebotomy environment.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent movement between hospital departments and floors. The employee will be exposed to disease-bearing specimens, blood, and body fluids, and must be prepared to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow PPE guidelines.
