Phlebotomist - Flower Hospital - Per Diem - Variable
Job Summary:ProMedica Flower Hospital is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in a safe and efficient manner. This is a per diem position, with variable shifts available.
Responsibilities:- Collect blood specimens from patients using proper techniques and equipment.
- Follow strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis to ensure patient safety.
- Determine the appropriate tests and associated minimum volumes for each specimen.
- Utilize the laboratory computer information system to document and track specimens.
- Perform quality control procedures to ensure accurate results.
- Act as a resource and liaison between phlebotomy staff and the laboratory team.
- Cross-train in defined core job functions and patient care departments.
- Routinely perform difficult specimen collections, such as re-draws and misses.
- Assist in the training of new associates or students.
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute or one year phlebotomy experience.
- Successful completion of an academic program with substantial practical clinical phlebotomy experience.
- Professional registration preferred (PBT(ASCP)).
- 1 year experience in a high-volume phlebotomy environment.
Personal Protective Equipment: Employee will follow policy and wear all PPE as recommended.
Physical Demands: Must be able to continuously move between hospital departments and floors while maintaining confidentiality on workstations. Must be able to understand directions and communicate effectively with all levels of hospital staffing and patients. Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, blood, and body fluids. Must be prepared to wear appropriate PPE and follow PPE guidelines.
