About the Role: The National Medical Association (NMA) is seeking a distinguished scientist to take on the role of Chief of Cancer Research Initiatives. This position is pivotal in overseeing a network of cancer research centers dedicated to innovative and interdisciplinary studies aimed at decreasing cancer prevalence and improving patient outcomes.

This role demands a high level of scientific acumen, a dedication to public health, and a collaborative spirit. The Chief will manage substantial core funding aimed at bolstering both fundamental and applied cancer research across affiliated centers. The ability to harness current scientific advancements and foresee future opportunities is essential for success in this role.

The Chief will provide strategic scientific direction for various programs and initiatives, managing an operational budget and a significant grants portfolio that supports collaborative research efforts. This position also involves serving as a senior member of the NMA leadership team, contributing to governance discussions and strategic planning regarding research priorities and funding allocations.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or M.D., complemented by specialized training and a proven record of achievements in cancer research, whether in laboratory, clinical, or population-based settings. A comprehensive understanding of recent advancements in cancer research is crucial. Key attributes include visionary leadership, program management experience, and the capability to engage with high-level stakeholders in complex research environments.

Compensation and Benefits: This position is offered under a specialized service appointment with a competitive salary structure, commensurate with experience, and a maximum salary of $248,000. Additional benefits include potential relocation assistance, comprehensive federal benefits, and retirement plans.
