About the Role

Dignity Health Medical Group is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant - Orthopedic Technician to join our team. As a Medical Assistant - Orthopedic Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing administrative and clinical support to ensure the smooth operation of our medical offices, clinics, and hospitals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide basic patient care and treatment
  • Assist with obtaining vital signs, documenting chief complaint, and providing assistance to physicians, residents, and/or licensed nursing personnel
  • Alert physicians of problems, concerns, or abnormalities
  • Perform casting, splinting, traction application, and various soft good applications
  • Work with providers, residents, nurse practitioners, and nurses to coordinate ongoing orthopedic needs
  • Assist providers with wound care
  • Maintain hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collect laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol
  • Assist the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures as requested
  • Retrieve necessary equipment and supplies
  • Perform follow-up actions as directed
  • Document clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols
  • Conduct front desk duties as needed (check in, registrations, scheduling appointments)
  • Complete full patient registration in IDX when registering new patients
  • Ensure all patient information is updated and current when following up/interacting with patients
  • Verify insurance eligibility and/or benefits
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. and a graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification - Nat'l
  • Demonstrated experience with computer program utilized for checking-in and scheduling patients
  • As related to Orthopedic Tech, six months related experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous MA experience highly preferred
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty
  • Bilingual skills
