Opportunity Summary

We are seeking a qualified
High Voltage Substation Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves the design and delivery of high voltage electrical substation projects.

Key Locations:
Candidates from various locations will be considered.

The engineer will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team under the guidance of a Supervising Engineer. The role requires coordination of design activities to adhere to project timelines and ensure successful outcomes. Additionally, the engineer will support the Estimating Team in the preparation of project estimates and proposals.

Your Contributions

This position is responsible for ensuring design activities comply with relevant codes and standards, as well as WSP's policies regarding Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Supervising Engineer for mentorship and guidance.
  • Develop substation layout plans, grounding systems, lightning protection, and installation drawings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge across various engineering disciplines and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Conduct studies and design calculations, including load flow, short circuit analysis, and transformer sizing, utilizing software tools such as WinIGS, ETAP, and SKM.
  • Provide progress updates and estimated completion times as requested by project managers.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives during project execution.
  • Draft technical specifications for electrical equipment and evaluate vendor proposals.
  • Utilize design software, including AutoCAD and MicroStation, to prepare or modify design drawings as necessary.
  • Ensure the delivery of precise and comprehensive designs that adhere to industry standards and best practices.
  • Address site inquiries, participate in site meetings, and conduct inspections during project construction phases.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation related to substation design and construction, including completion packages and as-built records.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in high-voltage substation design, preferably with renewable energy developers or electrical utility clients.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or eligibility.
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and project team collaboration.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
  • Position may require occasional travel to project sites.
