Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Flight Paramedic to join our Critical Care team at UNC Health. As a Flight Paramedic, you will be responsible for providing advanced life support care to critically ill patients during transport. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide advanced life support care to critically ill patients during transport, including mechanical ventilation, ECMO, and advanced monitoring.
  2. Communicate effectively with dispatch personnel, medical staff, family members, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless patient care.
  3. Document patients' status, delivery of care, and evaluation of patients' response to care according to unit-specific procedures and established protocols.
  4. Collaborate with physicians to ensure proper treatment and follow established protocols.
  5. Operate various medical and mechanical equipment in the pre-hospital, hospital, and aviation environment.
  6. Ensure medical equipment is functional and operational during transport and restock supplies as needed.
  7. Participate in plan of care for critical patients and require transport from referring institutions.
Requirements
  • North Carolina EMT-Paramedic certification or National Equivalent with ability to obtain NC Paramedic within 30 days of hire.
  • National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification.
  • Trauma certification such as ITLS, PHTLS, or TNCC.
  • Professional certification required within 18 months of hire, including CCEMT-P, FPC, or CCP-C.
  • Valid NC Driver's License in good standing or able to obtain prior to start.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of Paramedic experience in a high-volume ALS EMS service or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Critical Care Transport experience highly desired for this flight role.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard schedule of 36 hours per week. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring strong communication and teamwork skills. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment and provide high-quality patient care in a variety of settings.
