The Cardiology LPN supports patient care, throughput, and clinical operations for the Heart Center, Cardiology Resident Clinic, and Benning Road Cardiology site.

Specific Duties Are as Follows:

  • Trains all staff on department pre-visit planning protocols
  • Conducts telephone triage, as scripted per the red/yellow/green triage matrix
  • Reviews referrals and schedules based on diagnosis protocols
  • Reconciles orders, including EKGs, Echos, X-rays, and Stress Tests
  • Compiles consult notes and sends to referring providers
  • Liaison for inpatient discharge and ER follow-up appointments
  • Tracks patients for value-based payments programs
  • Trains medical assistants
  • Manages Cardiology task in-basket, ensures service levels are met
  • Manages patient throughput for Department Clinical Trials
  • Collaborates with Clinic Supervisor and Clinical Director for improvement projects
  • Collaborates with physician/medical residents as appropriate to determine action plan/escalation for cardiology patients
  • Documents telephone triage call in the EMR

Manages Medication Refills process

Reviews patient EMR for prescribed medication indication/history

Confirms medication prescription to ensure it is the right medication, dosage, and frequency reviews allergies/changes in medical history

Contacts patient to schedule appointment if required for refill

Pends refill request to physician in EMR

Documents/scans all relevant information in EMR

Other duties as assigned

Education: Licensed Practical Nurse - Required

DC License - Required

2+ years experience in an academic health system - Preferred

3+ years ambulatory nursing experience or 2 years inpatient experience on a med/surg Unit - Required

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $63,636 - $70,000
