As a Rigger Journeyman at Brown & Root, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of equipment and materials on construction projects. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Load, transport, and unload equipment and materials, selecting the appropriate cables, ropes, and pulleys for the task at hand.
- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, using bolts and clamps to secure them in place.
- Attach loads to the crane hook using grappling devices such as loops, wires, and chains.
- Provide direction to crane operators and hoisting engineers, using hand signals, loudspeakers, two-way radios, or telephones to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches as needed.
- Assemble and disassemble cranes, and splice rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
- May direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad cars, or trucks.
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
- Responsible for observing all safety rules and performing other duties as required.
- Coordinate the movements of hands and feet according to visual signals and directions, working within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Observe flat drawings or diagrams and understand how they would look as a solid object.
- Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
- Plan work and select proper tools.
- Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
May require a high school diploma or its equivalent, with previous years of experience in the field or a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
