Veterinary Nurse: Operating Rooms

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's veterinary teaching hospital. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the central supply and operating rooms of UW Veterinary Care.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support to veterinarians and veterinary students in the operating rooms and central supply areas.
- Assist with patient care, including preparing patients for surgery, administering anesthesia, and monitoring vital signs.
- Contribute to the instructional needs of the teaching hospital, including mentoring veterinary students and new technical staff.
- Participate in special projects, area problem-solving activities, and administrative tasks as assigned.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance, repair, and ordering, as well as reviewing facility maintenance needs in the area.
- Work collaboratively with the team to ensure effective communication and productivity in the hospital.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate proposed ideas and solutions.
- Participate in other technical and support duties as assigned.
- Work flexible, on-call hours and variable shifts as required by the hospital.
- High school diploma required; associate's degree preferred.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
- Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician or eligible to obtain Wisconsin licensure within 12 months.
- Experience working in a veterinary hospital or teaching hospital setting.
- Specialized training or certification in a specific area of veterinary technology.
Monday - Friday, 9:15am-6:00pm (45-minute lunch); variable night, holiday, weekend, and on-call shifts as required by the hospital.
Salary and BenefitsMinimum $18.36 hourly; depending on qualifications; sign-on bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment.
