Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's veterinary teaching hospital. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the central supply and operating rooms of UW Veterinary Care.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional patient care and maintain a clean and safe environment in the operating rooms.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in the training and development of veterinary students and new technical staff.
  • Contribute to the instructional needs of the teaching hospital.
  • Assist in problem-solving activities and administrative tasks.
  • Participate in special projects and area problem-solving activities.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance, repair, and ordering.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by the hospital.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree preferred.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
  • Experience as a veterinary technician or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CVT certification or eligibility to obtain Wisconsin licensure within 12 months.
  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
