Job Description

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Early Head Start Assistant Teacher to join our team at Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality educational and care services to young children, while also supporting the development of our center-based programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assume a teaching role in the absence of the lead teacher, ensuring continuity of care and education for our children.
  2. Collaborate with the lead teacher to coordinate instructional efforts, implement curriculum, and promote sound social and emotional growth and development.
  3. Assist in preparing lesson plans, submitting them to the lead teacher for review, and implementing activities that meet the needs of our children.
  4. Provide a safe and nurturing environment, recognizing individual differences and cultural patterns, and promoting the well-being of all children.
  5. Set up and arrange the classroom to meet daily lesson plan requirements, ensuring a stimulating and engaging environment.
  6. Interact with children using a variety of methods and techniques, including play activities, discussions, and supervised role-playing.
  7. Assist children with lesson assignments, reinforcing learning concepts and promoting academic achievement.
  8. Cooperate with center staff to provide services for special needs children, ensuring their needs are met and their rights are respected.
  9. Assist with recording children's weight and height, as necessary, and tracking in-kind donations.
  10. Accompany teachers on initial home visits and other visits as required, building relationships with families and promoting their involvement in the classroom.
  11. Encourage parents to become involved in the classroom, promoting their participation and engagement in their child's education.
  12. Encourage and promote the achievement of self-sufficiency among families, supporting their economic and social well-being.
  13. Clean the classroom at the end of each session, prepare for the next session, and maintain a clean and safe environment.
  14. Submit time sheets to the immediate supervisor, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  15. Assist the Cook/Dietary Aide and Bus Monitor/Bus Driver as needed, supporting the smooth operation of our programs.
  16. Maintain client confidentiality at all times, respecting the privacy and dignity of our children and families.
  17. Report daily child observations to the lead teacher, providing valuable insights and supporting their teaching practice.
  18. Participate in the Career Development Committee, contributing to the growth and development of our staff.
  19. Attend meetings, training, and seminars as required, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry developments.
  20. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies, ensuring the well-being of our children and staff.
  21. Perform other duties as required, supporting the overall success of our programs.

Requirements:

  1. Center-Based Child Development Associate Certification or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an accredited program in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  2. One year of experience and/or training working with children, preferably in a preschool or infant/toddler setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

  1. Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  3. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees, promoting clear communication and collaboration.

Mathematical Skills:

  1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Work-Related Abilities:

  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
  2. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  3. Ability to be punctual and organized, managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality, respecting the privacy and dignity of our children and families.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  1. Other examinations as deemed necessary by Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership.
  2. Ability to be bonded, ensuring the security and integrity of our programs.

Physical Demands:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  2. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  3. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
  4. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 10 to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
