Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory services team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of our laboratory, ensuring the highest quality patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the laboratory team, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care and adherence to standards of practice.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory operations and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to resolve questions and issues related to laboratory services.
  • Perform complex laboratory analyses and ensure that specimens are accessioned and processed expeditiously to deliver quality laboratory results.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Provide training and mentorship to laboratory staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist or comparable role.
  • One of the following required certifications: Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or categorical certification by Board of Certification (ASCP), Certified as a Medical Technologist by American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or HLA only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Certified by American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI), or Microbiology only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Microbiology, M(ASCP) certification, or Clinical microbiology registry from American Society for Microbiology, RM(AAM).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in a leadership or management role in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems and other related technologies.
