Program Overview

The Susan Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship program is designed to stimulate career interest and foster professional development in oncology nursing. The program provides a comprehensive scope of direct observational and learning experiences within the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), including exposure to oncology nursing, medical and surgical oncology, clinical research, and palliative care.

Program Scope

The program includes:

  • Oncology Nursing: exposure to possible roles, typical responsibilities, applied practice, and career opportunities
  • Medical and Surgical Oncology: treatment plans, key policies and procedures, patient education, and more
  • Clinical Research: opportunities to attend internal educational programs and meetings with key staff members
  • Palliative Care Department: organization, resources, services, and more
  • Infusion Services, Cellular Therapy, Radiation Therapy, Hospice Services, Patient Support Programs, Nurse Navigation, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society/Survivorship
Evidence-Based Practice Project

As part of this learning and development experience, the student nurse will be required to complete an Evidence-Based Practice Research project in some aspect of oncology nursing, which will be presented to their supervisory management during the last week of the program.

Application Process

This Fellowship is being offered to eight (8) rising nursing seniors from an accredited BSN nursing program. Applicants must be in good academic standing (recommended GPA of 3.0 or greater). To apply, interested students should complete the application online.
