The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a dedicated and eager individual for the role of Sponsored Projects Accountant. The Sponsored Projects Accounting department (SPA) oversees the financial management of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements received by the University from various government, non-profit, and private entities, totaling approximately $900 million annually. This role acts as the financial liaison between sponsoring organizations and the University Principal Investigator/Project Director, undertaking responsibilities such as:

  • Activating new awards within the Oracle financial system;
  • Managing ongoing adjustments for amendments, renewals, extensions, and other modifications;
  • Preparing and submitting periodic reimbursement requests and financial statements;
  • Monitoring project progress throughout its entire lifecycle;
  • Facilitating the financial close-out process.

This position demands an organized and detail-oriented professional capable of working independently while effectively utilizing automated accounting systems, Excel, and various databases. A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field is preferred, although candidates with relevant experience and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Equivalent relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
