Position Summary:
The Transport Specialist is tasked with the secure and prompt transportation of solar panels and associated equipment to various distribution points, construction sites, and clients. This position is vital to the logistics chain, ensuring that products are delivered in optimal condition, thereby supporting the timelines for solar energy installations and operations. The driver is expected to uphold high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer interaction while representing the organization in a professional manner on the road and during deliveries.
In addition, this role may involve assisting in warehouse operations as required. When engaged in warehouse tasks, the Transport Specialist collaborates with warehouse staff to effectively manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of solar products and related materials, utilizing forklifts and other equipment to guarantee the safe and timely delivery of goods.
Key Responsibilities
- Onsite Deliveries (80%)
- Warehouse Operations (20%)
Primary Duties:
ONSITE DELIVERIES (80%):
- Maintain Electronic Driver Logs and conduct Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Adhere to DOT regulations regarding random drug and alcohol testing.
- Deliver exceptional service to clients through effective communication during the unloading process.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of all company products and services.
- Load the vehicle and verify the accuracy of orders, ensuring compliance with weight limits and secure load practices.
- Keep precise records for submission to the Fleet Department.
- Report any mechanical issues promptly to the Fleet Department to ensure vehicle safety.
- Maintain safety protocols on company property, job sites, and during transit.
- Utilize appropriate safety gear, including safety vests and steel-toed footwear.
- Perform warehouse duties such as picking, packing, and shipping as necessary.
- Operate warehouse forklifts for inventory management.
Other Duties as Assigned
WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS (20%):
- Deliver quality service to customers through effective communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all company products and services.
- Count, verify, and manually unload incoming shipments.
- Manually pick, pack, and ship products/orders.
- Verify and load outgoing orders onto delivery vehicles.
- Ensure safety and proper performance of assistants on company property and during transit.
- Consistently utilize safety gear, including safety vests and steel-toed shoes.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the warehouse.
- Manage inventory in designated storage areas.
- Utilize forklifts for inventory movement.
Qualifications:
- Experience operating a Truck Mounted Forklift (TMF) is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of driving experience with the relevant equipment (combination vehicle with flatbed and TMF).
- Familiarity with DOT legal strapping requirements.
- Basic proficiency in English (reading and writing).
- Highly organized and self-motivated.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Effective listening, reading, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and time management.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Able to build relationships with all organizational levels.
- Basic technical skills for data entry and communication.
- Must be capable of performing all essential duties effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and DOT Medical Card are mandatory.
- Forklift Training/Certification is advantageous.
- Truck Mounted Forklift Training/Certification is required.
- Experience with Electronic Driver Logs and vehicle inspections is a plus.
- Must maintain a satisfactory driving record as per company policy.
- Must meet all DOT requirements, including physical exams and drug screenings.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is:
- Regularly required to sit, communicate, and use repetitive motions.
- Able to move up to 2,000 lbs with a pallet jack.
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Occasionally and repeatedly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Must have specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation and Benefits:

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is:
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high places, outdoor weather conditions, and vibrations.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel between 5% to 10% of the time.
